In November, TAUW, Cuatrecasas and SPAIN DC jointly organised the event “Cloud Technologies with Territorial Impact: Environmental, Energy and Urban Planning Insights” in Madrid. The event was a technical session in collaboration with TAUW’s partner Cuatrecasas, a major law firm with offices in several countries and a strong presence in the Iberian Peninsula, aimed at discussing key issues in this field.

The day opened with a keynote by Begoña Villacís Sánchez, speaking on behalf of SPAIN DC, who presented a strategic perspective on the current landscape and future trajectory of data centres in Spain. This was followed by a dynamic panel discussion featuring Juan Carlos Hernanz Junquero and Antonio Belda from Cuatrecasas, along with TAUW experts Oscar Tejado and Eva Cortés. The panel explored several key topics, including:

• Spain’s unique advantages for data centre development, supported by its renewable energy capacity and strategic geographic location.
• The importance of integrating sustainability and environmental permitting processes from the earliest stages of a project.
• The new draft decree on energy efficiency and sustainability for data centres and its potential implications for the sector.
